Wrestlemania 4.0

February 27, 2008

Well in case you missed Wrestlemania earlier promotional video, you can find it here.

Also, Light It Up by Rev Theory have been recently added to this year Wrestlemania’s theme list. You can view it here.

OK, first start! What’s are the new updates for Mania?

Cena/Triple H/Randy Orton match have been hugely overshadowed by Mayweather/Show match. Which i find it personally kind of sad when the MAIN event is supposed to be the one that sells the most. In any case, wrestling fans are getting paranoid over Cena’s role in his new movie. I can strongly assured the fans that Cena role will not affect his match outcome at Mania.

Edge/Undertaker match is evolving something predictable as of late, but I love the reaction of how this feud is turning, especially when Taker is such a favorite.

Chavo/Punk feud is hitting the last phase smoothly. Frankly, I enjoyed their feud, each week.

Mayweather’s 20 million earning from Wrestlemania is getting huge attention from media of all areas. Expect him to appear in external interview shows in weeks to come. Big Show has been announced to be on the Smackdown roster but any brand would still cover this feud since it is the ATTENTION now. Rumors have sparked for Shane Mcmahon to be involved in some ways.

Shawn/Flair have been set. Legend Vs Legend. While many anticipate Ric Flair to lose, writers might hold Ric for a while longer. Now, that’s the killer. In any case, both of them squared off sometimes back in 2003/4’s Bad Blood PPV. Re-doing this match and hyping it to this extent is a bit blunt. Shawn is also expect to induct Ric Flair into the Hall Of Fame this year.

Y2J/JBL storyline have been canceled. It is said that Vince is behind this sudden change. He doesn’t like the way things are turning, especially the fans reaction to this tasteless grudge. Writers fault seriously.

As mentioned earlier, I knew Finlay is up to some secrecy. Now that they announced Finlay to be Hornswoggle’s dad. Things are definitely getting better. I am still trying to make sense over JBL/Vince vs. Hornswoggle/Finlay. It looks like a forcefully mixed dish to me. In any case, Hornswoggle/Mcmahon angle will set to end after Wrestlemania.

Poor Jericho. His return seems to be going down hill months after months. Now he is involved with Jeff/Shelton/Kennedy in the MITB.

Candice Michelle/Maria and The Glamazon & Melina. Typical of WWE to do at Wrestlemania but I am still looking forward to it. Puppies! (Jerry The King Lawler voice suddenly sounded in my head. Lol!)

Batista is said to be feuding with Umaga on the RAW Vs Smackdown angle.

There might be a huge tag team brawl involving Morrison/Miz, Jimmy/Shannon, Mark Henry/Daddy V, Curt Hawkins/Zack Ryder at Wrestlemania.

There are news leaked backstage that Matt Hardy is set to return this week on Smackdown. No words have been confirmed. If he do return, MVP is surely on his top list of rivalry.

Hogan/Austin name have not been added to this year Wrestlemania.

However, The Rock and Mick Foley might make an appearance. Speaking of The Rock, he would induct his grandfather and father at this year Hall Of Fame.

Wrestlemania 24 Press Conference

February 26, 2008

LOS ANGELES – Earlier today at the WrestleMania XXIV press conference, the trail to the year’s biggest sports-entertainment spectacle heated up weeks before WWE dips south to Orlando, Fl, for the Granddaddy of Them All.

Rey Mysterio greeted and thanked our fans for their support and attendance. Though precluded from competition due to injury for the second straight WrestleMania, Mysterio promised that his torn right bicep would not keep him from coming back better than ever. The masked Superstar also vowed to help “Pretty Boy” Mayweather in preparing for his battle with the “World’s Largest Athlete.”

Out came “The Money” Mayweather. The “undisputed, undefeated” boxing champion told the world that he would take down Big Show – a man three times his size – on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Mayweather then cast wads of cold, hard cash to the Los Angelinos in attendance, explaining that he runs the show.

His BIG opponent then made his way to the stage moments later, sharing his own comments before tossing around furniture and taunting Mayweather. A fiery staredown between the two (with Mayweather standing on a table to meet Show at eye level) ended just before they came to blows when the WBC Welterweight Champion coolly – and rudely – disregarded the 7-footer’s bellows.

The press conference then took a turn toward the sexier side of WWE, as Divas Candice Michelle and Maria spiced things up in Hollywood this afternoon. In celebration of Maria posing in Playboy magazine, the pair of the Sexiest Women on Television announced their participation at WrestleMania: The first-ever Playboy BunnyMania Match.

Also, the daunting task of facing Undertaker and his 15-0 streak at WrestleMania, World Heavyweight Champion Edge snickered at the podium and asserted his bravado. Boasting that he would find a way past The Phenom to retain the title, the champion promised that “the streak comes to an end finally at the hands of the Rated-R Superstar.” The Deadman however did not appeared.

While reputations, grudge or streak are at stake, the WWE’s gold will also, of course, be on the line at WrestleMania XXIV.

At the press conference, WWE Champion Randy Orton claimed he would emerge from the Citrus Bowl with his title carefully couched in his arms, as the Legend Killer would also kill the hopes of his Raw challengers.

One of Orton’s two opponents, John Cena, intensely described his excitement for an event he was originally slated to miss due to a pectoral injury. In a Triple Threat encounter for the WWE Championship held by the Superstar who injured him, the title-focused Chain Gang Leader offered his own prophecy for March 30.

“My promise and my prediction,” Cena said, “is that history will be made at WrestleMania XXIV.”

In addition to the comments of both the WWE Champion and Cena, 11-time World Champion Triple H offered his emotion-fueled perspective on the Granddaddy of Them All.

“Last year, I was forced to sit on the sidelines,” Triple H explained. “That ate a hole in me. This year, The Game is back.”

Guaranteeing a show that no one else in the universe can put on, the King of Kings said the world will witness his return to his golden throne.

“We will find that soon enough LIVE, in 33 days time!” proclaimed Shane Mcmahon.

Here are some videos (John Cena’s appearance) (Mayweather/Big Show), you guys can enjoy from the press conference.

Column Of The Week: The Wrestlemania Moments

February 24, 2008

Wrestlemania is the grand daddy of wrestling not just in WWE. This is not an overstatement to glorify the event but more importantly of what it stands. In 5 weeks time, Wrestlemania will reach its 24th birthday (that’s even older than me) and it would be held at Florida. Over the years, we seen history, be a part of it and more so, shaped the way how Wrestlemania is today. Now, let’s us look at the ten moments of the 24 years luxurious legacy of Wrestlemania.

1/ Several celebrities such as Aretha Franklin, Reba McEntire and Boyz II Men have sung “America the Beautiful” over the years at WrestleMania, but perhaps no rendition was more memorable than that of the late, great Ray Charles. Charles certainly set the tone for what turned out to be a spectacular night at WrestleMania II, a night that set the success of wrestling in America.

2/ Wrestlemania III of Hogan defending his WWE Championship against the undefeated Andre the Giant was arguably one of the most anticipated match in sports-entertainment history. The Eighth Wonder of the World vs the Pride Of American. Hogan miraculously lifted Andre in the air and slammed him down to the canvas in one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.

3/ The first Intercontinental and WWE Championship match was put into a main event match at WrestleMania VI between Hogan and Ultimate Warrior. Two brothers dubbed the Ultimate Challenge, and it certainly lived up to its billing. After missing his patented leg drop, Hogan was taken down by the Warrior after a big splash. Instead of being a sore loser following the defeat, Hogan grabbed what used to be his WWE Championship and gave it to Ultimate Warrior before embracing him in a true act of good sportsmanship.

4/ WrestleMania X will go down as one of the best WrestleManias in history, because of the first-ever Ladder Match between Shawn Michaels and Razor. There were several memorable moments during the match, but perhaps the most memorable was Michaels leaping off the top of ladder and landing a splash on Ramon. Ramon may have ended up winning the match, but Michaels soaring off the ladder is a visual that will be etched in the minds of WWE fans forever.

5/ Recorded as one of the worse “bloodbath” matches, the Stone Cold versus Bret Hart match at Wrestlemania 13 definitely set the tone as one of the most memorable moment. After a brutal match that saw Stone Cold badly busted open, Hart locked in the Sharpshooter. Stone Cold could not escape Hart’s clutches, but he refused to give up. Stone Cold eventually passed out from the pain, and although he lost, he left the ring to a standing ovation as the fans chanted his name.

6/ “Iron” Mike Tyson, the self proclaimed baddest man on the planet served as a guest referee of an epic battle between Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 15. Tyson initially aligned himself with Michaels and D-Generation X, but in the end, he turned on Michaels and counted 1-2-3 for Stone Cold marking the start of the Austin Era.

7/ At WrestleMania X-Seven, Stone Cold Steve Austin challenged The Rock for the WWE Championship. It was The Rattlesnake versus the Brahma Bull. The Hell-Raising versus The Electrifying. The stakes couldn’t get higher than this one. Two top faces in the business go at it one on one. In the end, Stone Cold enlisted the help of Mr. McMahon to defeat his nemesis and regain the WWE Championship. Everyone stood in mere shock when Austin shook Vince’s hand after his victory.

8/ After a long hiatus from WWE, Hogan returned with the nWo to wreak havoc. The Rock challenged him to an Icon vs. Icon Match at WrestleMania X8, and Hogan accepted. It’s not easy for a WWE Superstar to reach an iconic status. It’s even more rare that two icons meet in the same ring to go one on one, but that was exactly the case at WrestleMania X8. In one of those rare moments that transcends the event itself, the two Icons met in the middle of the ring, face to face, for the first time. The Toronto crowd went nuts cheering back and fore for both men. It concluded with a handshake between both men.

9/ At Wrestlemania XX, the crowd of Madison Square Garden were heart-warmed in sight to see both men, who worked so hard in this business, finally achieving the impossible, and that’s Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. Following Benoit’s Triple Threat win over Triple H and Shawn Michaels, he celebrated in the ring with his best friend and WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero as they teared and hugged each other as the capacity crowd filled the arena with applauds.

10/ Perhaps the most heavily advertised match ever in the world of wrestling and that’s two billionaire going one on one at Wrestlemania 23. The Trump Vs Mcmahon match generated huge publicity from the media and eventually, Vince got his head shaved bald as Bobby Lashley, Donald Trump and Stone Cold stood hand in hand.

As we stood back and appreciate what has been done, Wrestlemania 24 will invades the Citrus Bowl, FL in 5 weeks time. Till then, see ya!

RVD On TalkWrestling

February 23, 2008

Well, Rob Van Dam recently appeared on Talkwrestling, an online talkshow about wrestling and he had some really interesting (and blunt) comments on Booker T’s PWA, Possible return, ECW show, RVD – TV and John Cena. Uncensored opinions is the gist of the entire interview. Really Cool, you guys should check it out.

Hogan/Bischoff Reality Wrestling TV

February 22, 2008

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have recently stepped up to clear some misunderstanding between their dealings. While many of the us thought, based on Hogan’s previous remarks that it would be a wrestling promotion show, “this show” that they are referring to is actually not bounded by the conventional lines.

Instead, it will be more of a reality TV show. Celebrities will train to become professional wrestlers. They would then be paired up against one another in matches. Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have currently been pitching the idea to several people. With the success of Eric Bischoff’s two reality TV shows, this does have a decent chance of coming to fruition.

Definitely it resembled WWE’s early production of Tough Enough, but this time round, it would really, and definitely get “tougher” and more entertaining.

Bastard Son’s Condition Worsen

February 22, 2008

Following JBL’s brutal attack on Hornswoggle during last Monday night’s RAW, doctors feared that he could have suffered a more severe trauma to his spine than initially expected.

At first, specialists believed that the nature and severity of Hornswoggle’s injuries were different and focused on other potential signs of trauma. When he showed little to no movement after 6-foot-6, 290-pound JBL repeatedly rammed the 4-foot frame of Mr. McMahon’s illegitimate son into a steel cage Monday night on Raw, physicians suspected that his back may have been broken.

However, as of Thursday morning, WWE.com reporters were told that Hornswoggle’s condition has begun to show slight signs of improvement. His mobility has been limited, but doctors say he has been able to wiggle several toes.

At this time, the doctors will continue their assessment throughout the evening and into the weekend. With additional testing, specialists hope to identify a more discernible recovery time for Hornswoggle. Hopefully he can make it to the upcoming Wrestlemania where he have a major role in the storyline with Vince/Finlay.

Superstar Lookback: Arn Anderson

February 21, 2008

Martin Anthony Lunde, 50, better known by his ring name Arn Anderson, is a American professional wrestler, regarded by some professional wrestling experts as the greatest professional wrestler never to have won a world title. His career has been highlighted by his alliances with Ric Flair and various members of the elite wrestling stable, “The Four Horsemen”. He currently serves as the senior Producer for WWE’s RAW brand.

Also branded as “Double A”, Anderson held the NWA Tag Team Championship belts twice with different members. His breakthrough came when he formed the Four Horsemen with Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson, James J. Dillon and Ric Flair in the NWA and in later years of WCW. Many experts argued that without Arn Anderson, The Four Horsemen would have never be so successful.

After so many long years of hardwork, Anderson was finally injured in a match in 1994 that eventually ended his promising career. Anderson was thrown into the ring ropes. The top rope broke from the turnbuckle and he landed full-force on to the concrete and hit his head, neck, and upper back. He never took time off to heal. As time passed, the injuries got worse. Later on, they found a rib, possibly torn away from the spine during the accident, was popping in and out of joint, causing shoulder discomfort and weakness.

Anderson retired from wrestling in 1997 due to these injuries and started working as a Road Agent for WWE. He does show up from time to time on WWE television trying to pull apart brawls. Anderson also did color commentary during the WCW/ECW Invasion angle in 2001.

Personally, Anderson have two sons, Barrett and Brock. Although the Anderson name is very renowned in the world of wrestling, he is in fact not related to Gene Anderson, Lars Anderson, Ole Anderson, C.W. Anderson, Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy). He remained a best friend to Ric Flair till today. They have been friends since the early days of NWA to WCW to WWE. There are several on-screen storylines that Anderson was involved with Ric.

When Ric came back to WWE sometimes in 2002. Anderson was assaulted on RAW by the Undertaker leading up the Undertaker vs. Ric Flair match at Wrestlemania X8. During WrestleMania X8, he also made a brief in-ring appearance during a match between Ric Flair and the Undertaker, delivering his signature spinebuster to the Undertaker.

Several months later he attempted to help Flair gain sole ownership of the WWE during a match with Vince McMahon. Anderson also made special appearances at RAW 2006 Family Reunion in which he was in Ric Flair’s corner for his match against Mitch of the Spirit Squad. This was followed by a match with Ric Flair, Sgt. Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes, and Ron Simmons at Survivor Series 2006, where the four faced The Spirit Squad.

Presently, Anderson remained the highest possible candidate to induct Ric Flair to the Hall Of Fame this year. Therefore, expect to see him pop out on screen in weeks to come.

Every now and then, you could see him running around the sets before the show start, making sure things happen the right way. He never complain, and he never weaver. Maybe thats why he is so valued by many professionals in the business of wrestling. Today, the edition of Arn Anderson on Superstar Lookback will take you through his career as the Four Horsemen of all time. Here are the DVD videos. Enjoy.

Wrestlemania 24 Update 3.0

February 20, 2008

With the Wrestlemania plan changing 24/7, WrestlingMAT is back with another post on it.

Right now, as mentioned earlier, these are the confirmed matches for Mania:

Undertaker Vs Edge (World Heavyweight Championship)

John Cena Vs Triple H Vs Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

Now, the attention is set to Floyd Mayweather and The Big Show. While many speculated that this match would gain attention from the media, it looks like too much hopes were pinned. As always, Wrestlemania would be a grand daddy event for the company and external big stars would grace the event. In the past, Limp Bizkit, Motorhead, Donald Trump, Mike Tyson has generated plenty amount of interest in the product during their appearances. With Floyd already in, the management is now seeking to bring in another renowned boxer, Oscar de La Hoya. Shane Mcmahon name was also being tossed around. It would be interesting to see how things would go.

What about Flair? On the past Monday Night Raw, Shawn Michaels personally made the announcement that Ric Flair would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at Wrestlemania 24 this year. You can expect the induction to be involved heavily in the storyline. With that said, Batista and Kennedy name has been thrown out. It looks like HBK/Flair match at Mania is set.

Following the line, JBL seems to be involved in another programme this past week on RAW. Hopefully, the writers would not made any silly changes to the grudge match between Y2J/JBL. Though I have to said, the built up sucks, but it would completely be a waste of the two months efforts made.

Jeff Hardy has agreed to put his body on the line at Money In The Bank. He has personally agreed to do this match despite his troubling health matters. Writers will be penning down the “against all odds angle” for Jeff Hardy in months to come which narrates around how he fail and try, fail and try, fail and try, and finally succeeded.

WWE is also discussing an idea to bring back Kevin Federline in a celebrity battle royal match. He would be the focus of the match and would win the entire thing. This would definitely make some media coverage from the press.

Whether you believe it or not, Vince might be playing up Hornswoggle head injury. I am getting sluggish over what to come for this angle. I don’t look forward to Finlay Vs Vince, i mean pardon me for those Irish friends but this angle just doesn’t seems matching. Inside of me, my hunch is telling me that Finlay would eventually betray Hornswoggle for a higher secrecy that will be sold in weeks to come.

Chavo Guerrero should lose the title to Punk at Mania. Thing is, where would Punk go after this? Would he faced the same fate like Lashley and get stripped off his title due to the draft lottery?

Candice Michelle is receiving really good hype up promo. So be sure for her to feud with Beth Phoenix.

Writers are having second thoughts now for ushering Matt in a return conquest with MVP.

Batista, Kane, Mick Foley, Kennedy, Shelton, Big Daddy V, Mark Henry, Umaga are all good names with feud yet to be settled. A possible solution is to throw them all into the MIB with Jeff.

The Flairing Interview

February 20, 2008

This interview was done a couple of weeks ago by a renowned press but I decided to keep the best for the last. And that is the stylin’, profilin’, limousine-riding, jet-flying, kiss-stealing, wheelin’n’dealin’ son of a gun! Yeah, the 16-time world heavy champion, who, at fifty-nine years of age, is still putting on a show, still beading up a glow, and still the nature boy, Ric Flair.

On his retirement issue:
“My time is coming I guess, I mean I don’t know when that time’ll be exactly, it’s hard to know, especially when I’m wrestling every match right now and my career depends on it” – kayfabe to the end – “But there’ll be a time, and it may be soon”, when the Nature Boy’ll have to move away from competing”

So what would be next for Ric?
“I see myself as being a spokesperson for this company, I am moving in to that role, doing these sorts of interviews, taking time to talk to people, to promote this amazing company. I say this hand on heart, this company (WWE) is second to none, because it knows the way to sell.

He added that he’ll move to a role within the company outside of being in the ring. And Flair is not interested in going back to being an on-screen puppet that doesn’t wrestle. He is not interested in booking and/or being a road-agent. But he will be fostering talent. Though not merely as a guy giving advice, internally. Ric Flair wants to project.

On screen or not, we know that Ric is facing problems in his personal life – so what’s his take?
“I have had a lot of problems and a lot of it is in my head, I know that, I go out there and do my job and deliver. But it has been hard. And it’s a process I’ve been working through – And I’d like to write another book; writing was part of what helped me to get over some of those worries and fears”

His lookbacks on his luxurious career:
“You know, I can honestly say that I don’t have a favourite match or feud. I’ve had some great ones, and I think I can say that knowing that there’ll be people that will back me up. And yeah, the I Quit match with Terry was, well, you know yourself, it was epic. And of course everyone talks to me about the matches with Steamboat. And all of the matches with Funk, with Harley, you know they were all great. I am lucky when I look back because, you know, I can honestly say that I have no regrets. I’ve made mistakes. Sure. But I have no regrets”.

On a possible Hogan/Flair match:
“Well, you know, I see where you’re going, but for me, there was never any issue with Hogan, his work ethic always impressed me. He worked his butt off to help make wrestling so big, and he was out there through the 80s and the 90s, working 300 days a year, selling t-shirts, selling out arena and he worked hard. Full credit to him. [Still] I never said he was the greatest in-ring performer.”

Would he be the champ for the 17th time again?
“The only guy of any magnitude that is still on the scene that I have never gone one-on-one against properly and would love to is John Cena. But that’ll never happen now. We’re in different zones, career-wise, he’s on the up, I’m, I guess, winding down.”

Who will be the next Ric Flair?
“There will never be another Ric Flair…… ever”

We are heading towards the last phase of Ric’s wonderful and amazing career. While most fans are more interested to know who Ric will face at Wrestlemania, what’s more important is, he still can carry another “Woo” and this word will resound in our head, whether its now, or in years to come.
