RVD On TalkWrestling

February 23, 2008

Well, Rob Van Dam recently appeared on Talkwrestling, an online talkshow about wrestling and he had some really interesting (and blunt) comments on Booker T’s PWA, Possible return, ECW show, RVD – TV and John Cena. Uncensored opinions is the gist of the entire interview. Really Cool, you guys should check it out.

Column Of The Week: My Way To The Highway

February 17, 2008

It started with a creative idea from Eric Bischoff and it evolved into a massive, high profiled match at Madison Square Garden on 2002. By far, 5 separate elimination chamber matches have torn 20 men apart. Tonight, the solid steel beams, thick vast of chain and ten tonnes of punishment will placed 12 men within its grasp. 3 brands, 2 matches, 2 winners, 1 night of glory.

Survivor Series 2002
The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line at the first Elimination Chamber. Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Kane, Chris Jericho, and Triple H all entered the steel chamber. A sweet chin music from Michaels hailed him back to the top with thunderous applaud crowning his success.

Summerslam 2003
The second EC participants were Triple H, Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, and Shawn Michaels. Goldberg was the man of the match before being ambushed by Triple H & his protege of evolution.

New Year’s Revolution 2005
Edge, Batista, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Triple H, and Randy Orton stepped into the 3rd Elimination Chamber to fight for a vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Shawn Michael was the guest referee. This match will be remembered mainly for the fans cheering for Batista to turn on his Evolution teammate Triple H.

New Year’s Revolution 2006
Kurt Angle, Kane, Shawn Michaels, Chris Masters, and Carlito stepped into the cage to fight for John Cena’s WWE Heavyweight Championship. John Cena remained the top and after the match, Edge cashed in on his Money in the Bank award and captured the gold from the weakened Cena.

December to Dismember 2006
The Big Show put his ECW Heavyweight Championship on the line in the 5th Elimination Chamber. The challengers were CM Punk, Hardcore Holly, Rob Van Dam, Test, and Bobby Lashley. This match added unique hardcore elements of steel chair, crowbar, barbed wire, baseball bat, and tables. Bobby Lashley captures the title after eliminating Test and the Big Show.

No Way Out 2008 [RAW]
RAW’s Elimination Chamber will be hyped up with three experienced wrestlers heading to the match. Shawn Michaels will be at EC for his 5th time. Triple H and Chris Jericho will be entering for the 4th time. Triple H held the highest winner record in EC with two victory. Jeff/JBL/Umaga have never stepped into the EC before. The final push has been narrowed to two names, Jeff and Triple H. Triple H vows to be the man tonight and Jeff has built considerable amount of momentum to be able cash his victory.

No Way Out 2008 [ECW/SMACKDOWN]
Pretty new entrants for this side. Only Batista entered the EC before. Undertaker/Khali/Finlay/Big Daddy V/MVP are new to this match. With Mysterio possible departure, it would be interesting to see how things would turned out. Again, it has been to narrowed down to two names, its either Undertaker or Batista. My vote would definitely be with Taker since the original plan of Edge/Taker have not been changed.

Some interesting things to note, many who had competed in the EC have surprisingly high chances of leaving the company. Of all the 20 unique men who had entered, nearly half of them have left the company in some ways. This includes Booker T, RVD, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Chris Masters, Test & Bobby Lashley.

Since there are two EC matches in one night, be prepared for a short display of performances. (yes, booooooo~) The conservative nature of the management style have always been safe guarding its talent. Furthermore, the impending grand daddy, Wrestlemania, would require them to be around for good. So, with that said, enjoy the matches tonight! Short & Sweet.

Hustle Update!

February 17, 2008

It’s always interesting to slip into the creative mind of Paul Heyman and get to know about his ideas, criticism, bold and yet accurate predication that no one has in the world of wrestling. The Sun, has recently tie up with Paul with another controversial interview. In any case, if it is not controversial, it is not Paul.

What do you think of Raw, Smackdown and ECW? What makes you scream and shout, in front of a WWE TV?

I don’t get emotionally involved like that any more because I lost enough hair and gained enough weight worrying about these things when I was working there.

So now, I can just sit back and enjoy it for what it is — and that is the public vehicle given to the networks to sell ad time for a thriving corporation, designed in part to satisfy the network’s criteria for paying the license fees, coupled with the need to promote, promote, promote. Vince McMahon’s theory and implementation of television is a fascinating study.

So do you think Stephanie will take over the WWE from Vince rather than her brother Shane?

I have my own conspiracy theory on this and I know some people won’t take it seriously because sometimes I don’t take it seriously. The theory is that Vince envisions himself running WWE well into his 90s, bypassing the Stephanie/Shane generation and going forward with the succession to Shane’s sons because then it’s a McMahon running the company.

Stephanie, who is far more publicly visible than her brother, has the boost of running the creative and talent ends, which is what most of the public sees. Stephanie will drive the product.

Shane, who has made and cultivated and nurtured new business relationships and explored new mediums and platforms and applications, grooms the next generation.

It’s the same deal that is going on right now with The Royal Family — The Queen is staying alive so Prince Charles doesn’t get the throne!

You talked about WWE being the dominant brand earlier — do you think rival American wrestling group TNA could ever challenge that?

I think TNA has a major hurdle to overcome — and that’s the fact that they have no BRAND. There’s no one on that roster that is branded TNA.

You look at Kurt Angle and you think WWE. You look at Booker T and you relate to, five-time, five-time, five-time WCW champ. You look at The Dudleys and you will think ECW or WWE or even tables.

You look at Samoa Joe, who should be the TNA guy, and you think this guy’s great, when’s he going to WWE. Are there hot moments? Sure. Are there personalities to like? Sure. Is there a good work rate? Sure. But there is no TNA style, TNA persona or TNA brand.

They had an opportunity to do this with the X Division, which is a totally unique concept you don’t see anywhere else in wrestling, MMA or sports entertainment.

That could have been their version of what UFC did with the Octagon but they diminished the effectiveness of their own creation.

They had a totally different and unique look and presentation, and then tossed it aside like it was just another gimmick.

For the life of me I can’t understand why.

Alright, a couple of days before the big Heyman Hustle launch can you tell us a bit about what it will involve?

Well, we had everything planned for the first episode.

This is a total improved situation which, I must confess, is 10 times the adrenalin rush and a much more exhilarating evening of production in the most sensory-heightening part of the greatest city on earth — Times Square, New York City.

One hour to go. What do we do? What the f*** do you think we did?

We did a Hustle.

Off The MainStream: 2nd

If you are wondering where is RAW’s DAMM nice man, Ron Simmons, he has recently took up WWE’s rehab offer. Simmons is currently staying at a rehab center in Atlanta along with Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Scott Hall. Just earlier today, Jake has expressed his gratitude to the company. I’ve updated his blog link at WM.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are expecting their 2nd child sometime this summer. The couple already have a baby daughter together. Current WWE Champion, Randy Orton is also expecting to be a dad for the first time. With Cena taking over, it would be a good time for him to take a break for his family.

WrestlingMAT has learned that AAA is trying to sign Booker T and Rob Van Dam for a huge show next month. AAA, which is one of the top wrestling promotions in Mexico, really wants both superstars to make an appearance at the Rey de Reyes show in Monterrey. Ron Killings would be there too.

WWE will be expanding to the China market soon, which will be good news for Asian wrestling fans. Recently they received a prestigious award for its community outreach in China. They have also signed Miss China, Angela Fong to WWE. She will report to Floria Championship Wrestling first before debuting in main rosters.

Kurt Angle recently discussed how WWE like to over work talents on a Radio talkshow. Angle also said that when he worked for WWE that he would only get to come home about five days in a month. Then they asked him about Brock Lesnar and Kurt surprisingly semi-complimented him by saying he was a good in ring competitor but then stated that he was a “mental midget,” claiming Lesnar could not do well under pressure. Apparently, Lesnar has been cool about this.

Lexi Pillman, step daughter of the late Brian Pillman is close to making her wrestling debut. Kind of interesting that she would choose to join the wrestling business given that she have good paper qualifications.
