Wrestlemania 4.0

February 27, 2008

Well in case you missed Wrestlemania earlier promotional video, you can find it here.

Also, Light It Up by Rev Theory have been recently added to this year Wrestlemania’s theme list. You can view it here.

OK, first start! What’s are the new updates for Mania?

Cena/Triple H/Randy Orton match have been hugely overshadowed by Mayweather/Show match. Which i find it personally kind of sad when the MAIN event is supposed to be the one that sells the most. In any case, wrestling fans are getting paranoid over Cena’s role in his new movie. I can strongly assured the fans that Cena role will not affect his match outcome at Mania.

Edge/Undertaker match is evolving something predictable as of late, but I love the reaction of how this feud is turning, especially when Taker is such a favorite.

Chavo/Punk feud is hitting the last phase smoothly. Frankly, I enjoyed their feud, each week.

Mayweather’s 20 million earning from Wrestlemania is getting huge attention from media of all areas. Expect him to appear in external interview shows in weeks to come. Big Show has been announced to be on the Smackdown roster but any brand would still cover this feud since it is the ATTENTION now. Rumors have sparked for Shane Mcmahon to be involved in some ways.

Shawn/Flair have been set. Legend Vs Legend. While many anticipate Ric Flair to lose, writers might hold Ric for a while longer. Now, that’s the killer. In any case, both of them squared off sometimes back in 2003/4’s Bad Blood PPV. Re-doing this match and hyping it to this extent is a bit blunt. Shawn is also expect to induct Ric Flair into the Hall Of Fame this year.

Y2J/JBL storyline have been canceled. It is said that Vince is behind this sudden change. He doesn’t like the way things are turning, especially the fans reaction to this tasteless grudge. Writers fault seriously.

As mentioned earlier, I knew Finlay is up to some secrecy. Now that they announced Finlay to be Hornswoggle’s dad. Things are definitely getting better. I am still trying to make sense over JBL/Vince vs. Hornswoggle/Finlay. It looks like a forcefully mixed dish to me. In any case, Hornswoggle/Mcmahon angle will set to end after Wrestlemania.

Poor Jericho. His return seems to be going down hill months after months. Now he is involved with Jeff/Shelton/Kennedy in the MITB.

Candice Michelle/Maria and The Glamazon & Melina. Typical of WWE to do at Wrestlemania but I am still looking forward to it. Puppies! (Jerry The King Lawler voice suddenly sounded in my head. Lol!)

Batista is said to be feuding with Umaga on the RAW Vs Smackdown angle.

There might be a huge tag team brawl involving Morrison/Miz, Jimmy/Shannon, Mark Henry/Daddy V, Curt Hawkins/Zack Ryder at Wrestlemania.

There are news leaked backstage that Matt Hardy is set to return this week on Smackdown. No words have been confirmed. If he do return, MVP is surely on his top list of rivalry.

Hogan/Austin name have not been added to this year Wrestlemania.

However, The Rock and Mick Foley might make an appearance. Speaking of The Rock, he would induct his grandfather and father at this year Hall Of Fame.

Wrestlemania 24 Press Conference

February 26, 2008

LOS ANGELES – Earlier today at the WrestleMania XXIV press conference, the trail to the year’s biggest sports-entertainment spectacle heated up weeks before WWE dips south to Orlando, Fl, for the Granddaddy of Them All.

Rey Mysterio greeted and thanked our fans for their support and attendance. Though precluded from competition due to injury for the second straight WrestleMania, Mysterio promised that his torn right bicep would not keep him from coming back better than ever. The masked Superstar also vowed to help “Pretty Boy” Mayweather in preparing for his battle with the “World’s Largest Athlete.”

Out came “The Money” Mayweather. The “undisputed, undefeated” boxing champion told the world that he would take down Big Show – a man three times his size – on the Grandest Stage of Them All. Mayweather then cast wads of cold, hard cash to the Los Angelinos in attendance, explaining that he runs the show.

His BIG opponent then made his way to the stage moments later, sharing his own comments before tossing around furniture and taunting Mayweather. A fiery staredown between the two (with Mayweather standing on a table to meet Show at eye level) ended just before they came to blows when the WBC Welterweight Champion coolly – and rudely – disregarded the 7-footer’s bellows.

The press conference then took a turn toward the sexier side of WWE, as Divas Candice Michelle and Maria spiced things up in Hollywood this afternoon. In celebration of Maria posing in Playboy magazine, the pair of the Sexiest Women on Television announced their participation at WrestleMania: The first-ever Playboy BunnyMania Match.

Also, the daunting task of facing Undertaker and his 15-0 streak at WrestleMania, World Heavyweight Champion Edge snickered at the podium and asserted his bravado. Boasting that he would find a way past The Phenom to retain the title, the champion promised that “the streak comes to an end finally at the hands of the Rated-R Superstar.” The Deadman however did not appeared.

While reputations, grudge or streak are at stake, the WWE’s gold will also, of course, be on the line at WrestleMania XXIV.

At the press conference, WWE Champion Randy Orton claimed he would emerge from the Citrus Bowl with his title carefully couched in his arms, as the Legend Killer would also kill the hopes of his Raw challengers.

One of Orton’s two opponents, John Cena, intensely described his excitement for an event he was originally slated to miss due to a pectoral injury. In a Triple Threat encounter for the WWE Championship held by the Superstar who injured him, the title-focused Chain Gang Leader offered his own prophecy for March 30.

“My promise and my prediction,” Cena said, “is that history will be made at WrestleMania XXIV.”

In addition to the comments of both the WWE Champion and Cena, 11-time World Champion Triple H offered his emotion-fueled perspective on the Granddaddy of Them All.

“Last year, I was forced to sit on the sidelines,” Triple H explained. “That ate a hole in me. This year, The Game is back.”

Guaranteeing a show that no one else in the universe can put on, the King of Kings said the world will witness his return to his golden throne.

“We will find that soon enough LIVE, in 33 days time!” proclaimed Shane Mcmahon.

Here are some videos (John Cena’s appearance) (Mayweather/Big Show), you guys can enjoy from the press conference.

Rey Mysterio Update

February 24, 2008

As of today, Rey Mysterio have been confirmed to be out of action for at least 6 months. However, he could still pull a Cena’s like angle and come back soon enough. In fact, Mysterio would be heading home for a recovery period of weeks before making a little surprise and possible interference at Wrestlemania on the Big Show/Floyd Mayweather match.

Management is also considering giving Mysterio an on-screen character on either Smackdown/ECW. A lot of fans have been calling this injury a “blessing in disguise” as Rey Mysterio had been losing momentum during his feud over the past months. Having him off action for a few months could help to rejuvenate his character and give another appeal of what Mysterio can do for the show beside the usual flying around.

His recently separated wife also appeared very concerned over his condition, and this could mean an improved situation for Mysterio on his personal life.

After browsing through the roster and factoring in the possibility that Rey Mysterio won’t be out for the full six months, the Smackdown main event scene should do just fine. The draft lottery is coming soon after Mania and management could possibly just moved either Jericho/Jeff to the brand.

On a last note, there seems to be some confusion over when Mysterio surgery was taken place. Many of you might forget that Smackdown is taped on Tuesday nights and aired on Friday nights, so in another word, it is not live.

Today’s column will be on the past moments of Wrestlemania so be sure to check back soon enough.

Wrestlemania 24 Update 3.0

February 20, 2008

With the Wrestlemania plan changing 24/7, WrestlingMAT is back with another post on it.

Right now, as mentioned earlier, these are the confirmed matches for Mania:

Undertaker Vs Edge (World Heavyweight Championship)

John Cena Vs Triple H Vs Randy Orton (WWE Championship)

Now, the attention is set to Floyd Mayweather and The Big Show. While many speculated that this match would gain attention from the media, it looks like too much hopes were pinned. As always, Wrestlemania would be a grand daddy event for the company and external big stars would grace the event. In the past, Limp Bizkit, Motorhead, Donald Trump, Mike Tyson has generated plenty amount of interest in the product during their appearances. With Floyd already in, the management is now seeking to bring in another renowned boxer, Oscar de La Hoya. Shane Mcmahon name was also being tossed around. It would be interesting to see how things would go.

What about Flair? On the past Monday Night Raw, Shawn Michaels personally made the announcement that Ric Flair would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at Wrestlemania 24 this year. You can expect the induction to be involved heavily in the storyline. With that said, Batista and Kennedy name has been thrown out. It looks like HBK/Flair match at Mania is set.

Following the line, JBL seems to be involved in another programme this past week on RAW. Hopefully, the writers would not made any silly changes to the grudge match between Y2J/JBL. Though I have to said, the built up sucks, but it would completely be a waste of the two months efforts made.

Jeff Hardy has agreed to put his body on the line at Money In The Bank. He has personally agreed to do this match despite his troubling health matters. Writers will be penning down the “against all odds angle” for Jeff Hardy in months to come which narrates around how he fail and try, fail and try, fail and try, and finally succeeded.

WWE is also discussing an idea to bring back Kevin Federline in a celebrity battle royal match. He would be the focus of the match and would win the entire thing. This would definitely make some media coverage from the press.

Whether you believe it or not, Vince might be playing up Hornswoggle head injury. I am getting sluggish over what to come for this angle. I don’t look forward to Finlay Vs Vince, i mean pardon me for those Irish friends but this angle just doesn’t seems matching. Inside of me, my hunch is telling me that Finlay would eventually betray Hornswoggle for a higher secrecy that will be sold in weeks to come.

Chavo Guerrero should lose the title to Punk at Mania. Thing is, where would Punk go after this? Would he faced the same fate like Lashley and get stripped off his title due to the draft lottery?

Candice Michelle is receiving really good hype up promo. So be sure for her to feud with Beth Phoenix.

Writers are having second thoughts now for ushering Matt in a return conquest with MVP.

Batista, Kane, Mick Foley, Kennedy, Shelton, Big Daddy V, Mark Henry, Umaga are all good names with feud yet to be settled. A possible solution is to throw them all into the MIB with Jeff.

Nose Shows?

February 18, 2008

As expected earlier, The Big Show made a triumphant return at No Way Out, last night. The Big Show accompanied by Shane Mcmahon had an on screen confrontation with the current WBC Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather. The confrontation led to a straight jab from Floyd right into the face of the Big Show. It is said that the Big Show suffered a legitimate broken nose, which caused him to bleed pretty badly. Not a good start for a big return here.

Another “show” received a broken nose as well. And that is the Showstopper, Shawn Michael. It is said that he had some difficulties continuing last night’s Elimination Chamber match. Not much word have been said but he should be able to work for tonight’s RAW.

Column Of The Week: My Way To The Highway

February 17, 2008

It started with a creative idea from Eric Bischoff and it evolved into a massive, high profiled match at Madison Square Garden on 2002. By far, 5 separate elimination chamber matches have torn 20 men apart. Tonight, the solid steel beams, thick vast of chain and ten tonnes of punishment will placed 12 men within its grasp. 3 brands, 2 matches, 2 winners, 1 night of glory.

Survivor Series 2002
The World Heavyweight Championship was on the line at the first Elimination Chamber. Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Kane, Chris Jericho, and Triple H all entered the steel chamber. A sweet chin music from Michaels hailed him back to the top with thunderous applaud crowning his success.

Summerslam 2003
The second EC participants were Triple H, Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, and Shawn Michaels. Goldberg was the man of the match before being ambushed by Triple H & his protege of evolution.

New Year’s Revolution 2005
Edge, Batista, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Triple H, and Randy Orton stepped into the 3rd Elimination Chamber to fight for a vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Shawn Michael was the guest referee. This match will be remembered mainly for the fans cheering for Batista to turn on his Evolution teammate Triple H.

New Year’s Revolution 2006
Kurt Angle, Kane, Shawn Michaels, Chris Masters, and Carlito stepped into the cage to fight for John Cena’s WWE Heavyweight Championship. John Cena remained the top and after the match, Edge cashed in on his Money in the Bank award and captured the gold from the weakened Cena.

December to Dismember 2006
The Big Show put his ECW Heavyweight Championship on the line in the 5th Elimination Chamber. The challengers were CM Punk, Hardcore Holly, Rob Van Dam, Test, and Bobby Lashley. This match added unique hardcore elements of steel chair, crowbar, barbed wire, baseball bat, and tables. Bobby Lashley captures the title after eliminating Test and the Big Show.

No Way Out 2008 [RAW]
RAW’s Elimination Chamber will be hyped up with three experienced wrestlers heading to the match. Shawn Michaels will be at EC for his 5th time. Triple H and Chris Jericho will be entering for the 4th time. Triple H held the highest winner record in EC with two victory. Jeff/JBL/Umaga have never stepped into the EC before. The final push has been narrowed to two names, Jeff and Triple H. Triple H vows to be the man tonight and Jeff has built considerable amount of momentum to be able cash his victory.

No Way Out 2008 [ECW/SMACKDOWN]
Pretty new entrants for this side. Only Batista entered the EC before. Undertaker/Khali/Finlay/Big Daddy V/MVP are new to this match. With Mysterio possible departure, it would be interesting to see how things would turned out. Again, it has been to narrowed down to two names, its either Undertaker or Batista. My vote would definitely be with Taker since the original plan of Edge/Taker have not been changed.

Some interesting things to note, many who had competed in the EC have surprisingly high chances of leaving the company. Of all the 20 unique men who had entered, nearly half of them have left the company in some ways. This includes Booker T, RVD, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Chris Masters, Test & Bobby Lashley.

Since there are two EC matches in one night, be prepared for a short display of performances. (yes, booooooo~) The conservative nature of the management style have always been safe guarding its talent. Furthermore, the impending grand daddy, Wrestlemania, would require them to be around for good. So, with that said, enjoy the matches tonight! Short & Sweet.

Mysterio Injured!

February 15, 2008

I guess many should have heard the news by now that Rey Mysterio suffered an apparent biceps injury at last night’s SmackDown/ECW brand house show in Santiago, Chile.

He was teaming up with Kane against the Edgeheads (Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder). Rey Mysterio did manage to pull through and finish the match. After being evaluated by the WWE medical crew, Rey Mysterio flew back to the United States to see the renown Dr James Andrew for further examination. Dr James Andrew is the doctor that worked on John Cena, Triple H, and Bobby Lashley in the past.

The emphasis now is not on how he got injured but the complications to come. Mysterio is scheduled to wrestle Edge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at No Way Out, and a possible match with Punk at Wrestlemania 24. His injury is a double blow to the present, poor performing creative writers.

The possible solutions are narrated down to a few names. Right now, FCW, WWE’s development organization are keen to release Big Show back into action. Unless the management are willingly to allow Show to step over Edge and prepare to let Batista win the EC, this would set up a blockbuster match of Batista/Show World title match at Mania. Of course, the very “creative” team often would choose to take the conventional way. Slot someone in to fill Mysterio place this Sunday, such as Kane.

Heyman Hustle Launching

February 13, 2008

Many are wondering why Paul Heyman simply vanished in thin air a year ago. The founder of ECW, the creator of Hardcore and the enforcer for wrestling creativity has such as famous status in the business but yet chose to turn his back on such lucrative deal.

It was him that provided jobs for many present hardcore legends including Stone Cold, RVD, Sabu, Sandman, Mysterio and Mick Foley. And it was him that was on odds with Vince.

The Sun, an English tabloid had a chance to speak with him recently on his present status and his upcoming project of the Heyman Hustle.

Here is a little teaser on what was mentioned of wrestling during the Interview

What happened between you and Vince:
I think what it boils down to is Vince McMahon and I have totally separate and distinct visions for what a wrestling or sports entertainment product should be. There’s nothing wrong with having those different visions, the problem was that Vince started to take the difference of opinion personally. And once that personality conflict comes into play, when you’re trying to steer the direction of a product, it becomes a bad work environment. So Vince didn’t like working with me anymore and I didn’t like working with Vince anymore. And it’s his company, so obviously he has to stay!

But why didn’t Vince just say: “Paul, I know you’re good at ECW, it’s on Sci-Fi, do your stuff, work your magic, make me some money?”
Vince is such a control freak that if he sneezes, the next 10 minutes of any meeting are ruined because he is so p***ed at himself for not being able to control the sneeze. He is a billionaire. He has his own luxury private plane and, by the way, it’s a really nice plane. He has things and property and cash that every other wrestling promoter in the world doesn’t have. He has achieved these goals HIS WAY and so Vince is not about to let anyone have free reign over anything in his kingdom. That’s just not going to happen.

Can you give us some examples of the things that you wanted to do that Vince said “no” to?
I thought the undercard was horrible. I thought that the design of the show itself made no sense. I just felt that the entire layout of the show, the entire complexion of the event was a downer. I also thought that we were doing Bobby Lashley no favours the way he was going to win the title. Lashley winning the title, especially if you eliminate Rob Van Dam and CM Punk early, would be leapfrogging over RVD and Punk. If you don’t appease the need for the audience to see that new hero get crowned like Punk did the week before at Survivor Series when DX let him say ‘Are you ready?’ then the audience will feel ripped off.

If you don’t put that spotlight on Van Dam, with whom the paying customers have just taken this long ride back into the title chase, then the paying customer will feel ripped off. My opinion was to start the chamber off with the Big Show saying: “I’m a seven foot tall, 500lb giant, I’m gonna mow through every one of you.” And the first to take him on would be Punk. Playing to the fact that UFC is so hot and in the public consciousness, Punk chokes out Big Show in the first round of the Elimination Chamber, four-and-a-half minutes in, and now the champion is out.

You know for a fact, before any two contenders lock up, I’m getting a new champion at the end of this match. You let Van Dam and Punk fight it out, and then you start feeding in the heels. Vince hated this. He especially hated the fact that Big Show liked it.

Let’s talk about the Heyman Hustle. Let’s give people a taste of what’s going to happen on this show.
Our goal is to break ground in the wireless/broadband and digital/mobile platforms, which get so much attention from the entertainment industry right now because its unchartered turf and no-one has been able to figure out what the future holds on this constantly evolving concept. We want to peel back the layers of celebrity and we’re going to demonstrate that larger-than-life personalities are not only found on television and the movies.

For more information on the interview, you can view it here. You can view the promotional video here as well.

Wrestlemania 24 Update

February 11, 2008

WrestlingMAT is back with another update for the upcoming Wrestlemania.

The official theme song this year will be Snow “Hey Oh” by Red hot chilli peppers. This song won the Grammy last year, you can listen it here.

Vince has been very keen on the idea of having two faces headlining Wrestlemania, which is Triple H vs John Cena. Fans has expressed their concerns over Triple H’s troubling matters with his family. By and large, I can said, it would not affect his match at Mania.

Last year, Pop Princess, Britney Spears was actually approached to make an appearance at Mania 23. However she declined the invitation. It happened likewise for this year.

Hulk Hogan Vs Stone Cold should be unlikely to happen. Both men have personal tight schedule to follow, plus the lack of interest to do this match was also a compelling factor.

However, you can anticipate a Rock/Austin or Hogan/Austin promo to be cut at Mania this year.

Y2J/JBL and MVP/Matt Hardy match remained in the confirmation list.

Management has played down the Punk/Edge feud which means there could be a possible twist in the story. For Punk to win the title from Chavo at No Way Out is still 50-50. Writers has been getting heavy stress on who to place as Punk’s opponent at Wrestlemania if he were to win it next Sunday. Chavo remained the highest possible. Mysterio name also surfaced.

Both the writers and Vince are not keen to push Michaels for a win over Flair at Maina because of the fact that he was already an established star. They want young stars to have the moment, which means Batista or Orton remained high candidates now.

There are no much talks to change Undertaker/Edge match so it remained a high possible match. Edge/Vicki segment is likely to be put to an end as well.

The Mcmahon/Finlay/Hornswoggle angle is likely to involve the returing Big Show though words have not been confirmed.

As reported earlier, Jeff’s condition is getting worse and management has expressed their woes to put Jeff in a high profile/risk match at Mania. Therefore he is likely to just defend his I.C title. Having both Jeff/Matt to win the secondary titles of each brand is still something feasible.

As a whole, Vince has been commenting that despite a possible bad weather outbreak, the show will still go on.
